Toronto continues to hold its ground on the world stage, ranking 20th among 1,000 global cities in a 2026 index. Our city’s strong economic fundamentals and thriving human capital keep it firmly within the top 25, a testament to what makes the GTA such an attractive place to invest, live, and grow. However, the same report highlights a significant challenge: housing affordability. Toronto’s median multiple sits at around 7.5 in the 2026 housing study, which places us among the least affordable major markets. In fact, Toronto residents now dedicate a higher portion of their incomes to housing than almost any other major city worldwide. The ongoing shortage in housing supply, along with a slowdown in new housing starts projected through 2026, continues to widen this affordability gap. Having navigated hundreds of real estate transactions across Toronto and beyond, I’ve seen firsthand how these trends impact buyers and investors. Understanding the nuances of our city’s market is key to making informed decisions in such a dynamic landscape.
